
Following his sudden announcement of retirement, Wu Dajing, China's first male athlete winning a winter Olympic gold medalist in individual sports, chose not to hold any kind of retirement ceremony. As he sees it: “I came into skating quietly, from a place of complete anonymity. So when it’s time to step away, there’s really no need to make a big show of it. Besides, retiring like this—calmly and quietly—is, for me, a rather nice way to remember it.”
