GuAiling bemoans her grandmother with a gold

After winning gold, Eileen Gu learned of the passing of her grandmother — the woman who had accompanied her through her childhood and given her strength. She broke down in tears at the post-event press conference.

“I just learned that my grandmother has passed away,” Gu said. “Before I left, she was already very ill. I didn’t promise her that I would win — but I did tell her that I would be brave.”
