On the evening of April 23, the Qingdao International Marathon issued penalties against 16 violators from the 2026 race held on April 19. One competitor, who ran while skipping rope, received a two-year ban, sparking widespread discussion.

According to the announcement, the marathon saw multiple serious violations, including bib swapping, unauthorized participation, illegal sale or transfer of bibs, forged credentials, bib concealment, carrying prop poles on the course, and obstructing other runners. Several individuals involved in transferring or forging bibs were handed lifetime bans, with their violations reported to the Chinese Athletics Association for record.
Among the 16 violators, one contestant completed the full course in 3 hours, 50 minutes and 5 seconds while continuously skipping rope. After reviewing race surveillance footage, the organizing committee determined that running with such equipment posed a high safety risk, as it could easily scrape or block nearby runners and did interfere with other participants. The final penalty: disqualification from the marathon result and ranking, a ban from all events organized by the Qingdao Marathon Committee from 2026 to 2027, and simultaneous filing of the violation record with the Athletics Association.
