Zheng Qinwen ousted after Rybakina comeback

In the early hours of April 27 (Beijing time), Zheng Qinwen was eliminated from the WTA 1000 Madrid Open Round of 16 after losing to No. 2 seed Elena Rybakina 6–4, 4–6, 3–6. It marked the second time Zheng fell to Rybakina in a comeback defeat, following a similar loss in Doha.

The first set saw Zheng break early to lead 4–2 and later close it out 6–4. In the second set, Zheng broke first but Rybakina broke back from 0–40 down to level. The set stayed tight until Rybakina broke Zheng at 5–4 to win 6–4. In the decider, Rybakina broke for a 4–2 lead. Zheng broke back immediately but lost her next serve again. Rybakina sealed the match 6–3, advancing to the Round of 16 with her sixth straight win on clay.
