“PSG-Bayern served up the most classic match”

In the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semifinals, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich produced a thrilling 5-4 scoreline. Most fans found the match very entertaining—some even called it one of the most classic games they’ve ever seen. However, others argued that such a high scoreline was simply the result of poor defending on both sides.

Luo Ming, editor-in-chief of Titan Sports, commented on this by saying: “I don’t understand this kind of interpretation. First of all, it wasn’t frequent low-level defensive errors from either side that led to so many goals. Secondly, both teams employed high pressing, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they would concede this many goals. If you put other European teams in this scenario, they might collapse under such intense pressure—so how could they possibly score five against Bayern or four against Paris?”

He added: “Ultimately, the reason Bayern and Paris scored so many goals is not because their defenses were poor, but because their attacking quality is exceptionally high. In fact, not long ago in the Premier League, Manchester City faced Arsenal in a match where both sides pressed aggressively. It was an intense and exciting game, but both teams made numerous mistakes and struggled to build fluid attacks under pressure. This may also help explain why City were beaten twice by Real Madrid, while Arsenal’s form has been relatively inconsistent.”
