In the first round of the 2026 French Open women's singles, Chinese qualifier Wang Xiyu advanced to the second round after defeating Montenegro's Danka Kovinić in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. Wang's next opponent will be American player Baptiste.

This year at Roland Garros, Wang Xiyu fought her way through the qualifying rounds to secure a spot in the main draw, while Kovinić entered the tournament using a protected ranking. Their last meeting was back in the 2017 season, when Wang also claimed victory in straight sets.
At the start of the first set, both players exchanged service breaks. In the third game, Wang broke serve again and then saved a break point on her own serve to take a 3-1 lead. Over the next four games, both players held serve, with Wang maintaining a 5-3 advantage. Serving to stay in the set, Kovinić was unable to convert a game point, and Wang seized another break opportunity, winning the set 6-3 and taking a 1-0 lead.
In the second set, Kovinić broke serve at the outset, but Wang responded with six consecutive games, dominating the set 6-1. Wang thus clinched a 2-0 victory to move into the second round of the women's singles. This win also marks Wang Xiyu's second career main draw victory at the French Open, equaling her best performance at the tournament.
