Wang Yidi on her title-winning campaign in Montpelier: "This week was nerve-racking. By the end, I was the only Chinese player left, so I wanted even more to win — to take the victory for Team China.” Wang Yidi battled through one tough match after another. She opened her campaign with a 3–1 victory over Japan’s Hina Hayata, then narrowly edged Brazil’s Bruna Takahashi 3–2 in the second round. In the quarter-finals, she prevailed 4–3 over Japan’s Miwa Harimoto after a seven-game thriller, before defeating South Korea’s Joo Cheonhui 4–2 in the semi-finals. In the final, Wang capped off her remarkable run with a stunning comeback victory over Germany’s Sabine Winter.
