On March 30 (Beijing time), China men's national volleyball team setter Yu Yaochen announced his retirement on social media. He stated: “I once naively believed that I might be able to compete until I was 40. But the harsh reality is that my body can no longer sustain high-intensity training and matches.”
Yu Yaochen was born in 1995 in Anshan, Liaoning Province, and was once regarded as a promising setter for the Chinese national team. He was first selected for the national team in 2017. His achievements include a bronze medal at the 2021 Asian Championship, a gold medal at the 2022 Asian Cup, and a silver medal at the 2023 Asian Games.
Last year, Yu Yaochen was selected as the main setter for the Chinese men's volleyball team coached by Vital Heynen.
