
In the first round of the 2026 Montaigu Tournament, China U16 faced host nation France U16. France took control early, going into halftime with a 3–0 lead. China pulled one back in the second half as Liu Kaiyuan provided the assist and Wu Bile finished. Late on, France added a fourth to seal a 4–1 victory.

The Montaigu Tournament is played in two 40-minute halves. France opened the scoring in the 5th minute when Rosse Torres struck a long-range effort from the edge of the penalty area to make it 1–0.
China threatened in the 12th minute, but Cheng Junhan’s follow-up effort inside the box went wide, with the assistant referee then indicating offside.
In the 18th minute, Liu Kaiyuan received the ball with his back to goal at the top of the box, shook off two French defenders and slipped a through ball into the area. Wu Bile’s shot was cleared behind for a corner. The ensuing delivery went straight toward goal and was pushed away by the France goalkeeper.
France doubled their advantage in the 28th minute from a corner. Maykel Gomis brought the ball under control with his chest before Yanis swept a first-time finish into the net for 2–0.
Four minutes later, France struck again from another set piece. Rosse Torres fired home to extend the lead to 3–0 in the 32nd minute.
China came close in the 37th minute as Liu Kaiyuan drove into the penalty area despite pressure from three defenders, but his shot drifted wide under a close challenge.
China got on the scoresheet in the 45th minute. Zhang Lintong played the ball out wide, Liu Kaiyuan delivered a cross, and Wu Bile arrived through the middle to slot home, cutting the deficit to 3–1.
After the break, France created several chances, but China goalkeeper Jiang Chengen made a series of saves to keep his side in the contest.
In the 75th minute, a misplaced back pass from Li Dongchen proved costly, allowing Mamadou Diallo to finish and wrap up a 4–1 win for France.
