
On April 3, at the second stop of the 2026 China National Athletics Throws Series, Jiangsu athlete Zhao Jie won the women’s hammer throw with a mark of 78.22 meters, breaking the Asian record.

After throwing 77.31 meters on her first attempt, Zhao delivered 78.22 meters on her second, significantly improving her personal best and raising the Asian record by 54 centimeters.
The previous Asian record of 77.68 meters was set by Wang Zheng in 2014. Zhao’s performance also made her the first Asian woman in history to surpass the 78-meter mark in the hammer throw.
