On April 12, the 2026 Beijing Half Marathon kicked off, Wang Wenjie from Tsinghua University clocked an impressive time of 1:01:15, significantly improving the Chinese national record for the half marathon.

At 21 years old, Wang Wenjie is also the national record holder in the men’s 10,000 meters. In a competition held in Japan last May, he ran 27:48.68, breaking the Chinese national record and becoming the first Chinese athlete to go under the 28-minute barrier. With this new half marathon record, he has now become the national record holder in both the men’s 10,000 meters and the men’s half marathon.
