Perfect Madrid Open start for Zhang Shuai

After defeating Eva Lys in the first round of the women’s singles at the Madrid Open, Zhang Shuai returned to the court just a day later for the women’s doubles. 

In the early hours of April 24 (Beijing time), the third-seeded Australian Open champion duo of Zhang Shuai and Elise Mertens staged a comeback from 3–7 down in the match tiebreak, eventually defeating the American pair of Caty McNally and Jessica Pegula 6–2, 3–6, 10–7 to advance to the second round. Zhang Shuai also secured opening-match victories in both singles and doubles in Madrid.
