In the second session, after Selby took a 5-4 lead, Wu Yize launched a counterattack and turned the score around to 7-5. Throughout this session, Wu Yize played very proactively and finished the session leading 9-7.
In the third session, Selby struck first and narrowed the deficit to 8-9. However, Wu Yize seized on Selby's defensive lapses and played steadily after getting to the table, taking an 11-9 lead. Wu Yize reached match point first. Coming to the 24th frame, Wu Yize capitalized on Selby's mistake and finally secured the victory, winning 13-11 overall and advancing to the quarterfinals with his head held high.
Throughout the match, Wu Yize made five half-century breaks (52, 72, 56, 71, 53), becoming the second Chinese player after Zhao Xintong to reach the quarterfinals of this year's World Championship, achieving the best result of his career at the World Championship.
