In the second round of the 2026 French Open women's singles, Chinese qualifier Wang Xiyu faced off against 26th seed Baptiste. Wang Xiyu was leading 5-4 in the first set when her opponent retired due to injury. With this result, Wang Xiyu advanced to the last 32 at Roland Garros for the first time in her career, matching her best Grand Slam result from the 2022 US Open.

In this match, Wang Xiyu got off to a strong start, breaking serve in the opening game. Although Baptiste broke back quickly to level the score, Wang Xiyu relied on stable baseline rallies and precise shot placement to break again and take a 4-2 lead. Heading into the 10th game, when Wang Xiyu was serving for the set, Baptiste suddenly suffered an injury and fell to the ground after attempting a difficult save. Ultimately, Baptiste was unable to continue, handing Wang Xiyu a place in the last 32.
This marks Wang Xiyu’s first appearance in the last 32 at Roland Garros and is her second overall progression to the last 32 at a Grand Slam, following her breakthrough at the 2022 US Open. After the match, Wang Xiyu offered her best wishes to her opponent: "I myself have come back from injury and haven’t played against a top-30 player for a long time. I hope she recovers quickly, and I look forward to playing her again in the future."
In the next round, Wang Xiyu will face Ukrainian player Starodubtseva, who produced a major upset by defeating second seed and world No. 2 Rybakina 3-6, 6-1, 7-6(4) in this round, claiming her first-ever victory over a top-10 player.
