Zheng has struggled with form recently. She lost in the first round of Washington as a wildcard to eventual champion Alexandra Eala, then fell in Toronto qualifying to Lanlana Tararudee—her first qualifying-round exit since Strasbourg 2021.

Currently ranked No. 123, Zheng barely made the Cincinnati qualifying cut but has now opted out. This likely points to a direct entry into the US Open qualifying, starting August 24, where she will need three wins to reach the main draw—a tall order given her current form.
