Wang Xinyu suffered a heartbreaking first-round exit at WTA1000 Toronto on Tuesday, losing 1-6, 7-6(5), 7-5 to Daria Kasatkina after squandering a 6-1, 4-1 lead.

The Chinese took the opening set convincingly and looked in complete control with a double-break advantage in the second. But Kasatkina stormed back, winning four straight games to flip the set. Wang fought back to earn a serve-for-the-match opportunity at 6-5, only to see the Russian break her at love and take the tiebreak 7-5.
The third set followed a similar script. Wang broke for a 5-3 lead and again served for the match, but Kasatkina broke twice in a row to seal the comeback. The Russian will face Elena Rybakina in the next round.
