WTT Yokohama Champions kicked off Tuesday, with mixed results for Chinese paddlers. Defending champion Chen Xingtong cruised past South Korea's Kim Nayeong 3-0 (11-6, 11-5, 11-7) to reach the women's second round.

Chen, who won the title here last year, said she was not focused on defending but simply taking it match by match. Her dominance was evident throughout the contest.

On the men's side, 19-year-old Wen Ruibo, ranked 12th in the world, suffered a first-round exit, falling 3-1 to Portugal's 31-year-old Joao Geraldo (ranked 33rd). Wen took the second set but looked out of sorts overall, struggling with return of serve and lacking tactical variety in the 8-11, 11-7, 8-11, 8-11 defeat.
