China wins 2 golds at World U20 Athletics

The 2026 World U20 Athletics Championships were held in the United States from August 5 to 9. The Chinese youth athletics team won a total of 2 golds, 1 silver, and 2 bronzes, finishing eighth in the medal table.

More than 1,700 young athletes participated in this event. Su Yixin gave the Chinese team a strong start by winning gold in the women’s discus, securing victory with her first throw of 61.06 meters. This result set the world’s best performance for U20 athletes this year and broke her personal record.

In the men’s hammer throw, Chen Jiawei also established an early lead with his first attempt and ultimately won gold with a throw of 79.16 meters. This set this year’s U20 world best, and broke the national U20 record he already held.

In addition, Pu Huajia took silver in the men's 5000m race walk with a time of 18:43.70, setting a new Asian U20 record. Wang Zhuoyue claimed bronze in the men’s triple jump with a mark of 16.36 meters, while Yang Yutong earned bronze in the women’s 5000m race walk with a time of 21:31.99, achieving a personal best.
