Gilbert defeats Wu Yize in China Open

In the second round of the 2026 Snooker China Open, Wu Yize was defeated 2-6 by David Gilbert and failed to reach the quarterfinals.

In the first frame, Wu Yize made two errors, giving Gilbert a chance to get to the table. Ultimately, Gilbert came from behind to win the first frame 61-47. In the second frame, both sides engaged in a fierce battle at the start. After a tie at 23 points, Wu Yize made two safety errors, and Gilbert seized the opportunity to complete another comeback and take the frame, leaving Wu Yize trailing 0-2. In the third frame, Gilbert made a century break to win another frame, extending Wu Yize’s deficit to 0-3. In the fourth frame, Wu Yize made a long pot and compiled a break of 88 to pull one frame back before the mid-session interval.

After the interval, Gilbert scored another break of over 50 to win the next frame, putting Wu Yize behind 1-4. In the sixth frame, Gilbert made yet another century break, taking a 5-1 lead and reaching the match point. Facing elimination in the seventh frame, Wu Yize fought back with a break of 80, narrowing the score to 2-5. In the eighth frame, Wu Yize completely lost his form as Gilbert scored another 50-plus break to win the deciding frame, ending Wu Yize’s campaign at 2-6.

Gilbert’s next opponent will be Zhou Yuelong, who defeated Liu Hongyu 6-4 in an all-Chinese derby in the second round.
