On the evening of October 9, 21-year-old Chinese wildcard Zhou Yi defeated 24th seed Lorenzo Musetti 2–1 after a hard-fought three-set battle in the second round of the 2026 ATP Shanghai Masters, reaching the third round of a Masters 1000 tournament for the first time in his career.

Speaking about the match after the victory, Zhou said: “I did a lot of analysis, and a lot of it was spot on. My serve was pretty good today. There are definitely things I could have done better, but within my capabilities, I did everything I could today, and I’m very happy with the result.”
In the next round, Zhou will face former Shanghai Masters champion Hubert Hurkacz, who previously eliminated Serbian legend Novak Djokovic, fresh off his title-winning run at the China Open.
