
The incident involving a group of people verbally abusing Chinese national table tennis team coach Wang Hao during the WTT China Smash recently attracted widespread public attention. On October 10, the Shijingshan Branch of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau issued a police notice, announcing that 3 people had been placed in administrative detention and 17 others had received criticism and education.

“Recently, following a report, Shijingshan police established that on October 6, during the WTT China Smash, Yang and 19 other individuals gathered to publicly insult another person.
Among them, Yang (female, 19), Li (female, 19) and Tao (female, 16), seeking to vent their personal frustrations, repeatedly hurled insults at a coach of China’s national table tennis team as he passed through a corridor at the venue. They also posted insulting remarks online and circulated videos of the verbal abuse at the scene, causing a serious negative social impact.
In accordance with the law, public security authorities have imposed administrative detention on the three individuals whose violations were deemed relatively serious. The other 17 individuals involved have received criticism and education.”
