On October 14, FIFA officially announced that the first round of the 2027 FIFA Women’s Champions Cup will be held on October 25, 2026, at Hangzhou Shangcheng Sports Centre Stadium in Hangzhou. The match will see Asian champions Naegohyang Women’s FC of DPR Korea face Oceania champions Auckland United FC of New Zealand.

The FIFA Women’s Champions Cup has been dubbed the “Women’s Club World Cup.” The inaugural edition was held in London in January 2026, with Arsenal Women lifting the title. This year’s opening round pits the Asian champions against the Oceania champions, with the winner set to face the African champions in Round 2. The final stage will take place in Miami, USA, in January 2027.
In May this year, Naegohyang Women’s FC beat Japan’s Nippon TV Tokyo Verdy Beleza 1-0 in the AFC Women’s Champions League final, becoming the first DPR Korean club to win Asia’s top women’s club competition.
The decision to host the match in Hangzhou took into account international transport links, stadium facilities and past experience in hosting major events. It is expected to help consolidate traditional China-DPRK friendship, build experience in staging top-level FIFA women’s competitions, and serve as a practical drill for the U20 Asian Cup, helping to develop the organizing team.
