Oscar calls for respect for chinese people

Former Shanghai Port midfielder Oscar spoke at an online event hosted by Brazilian non-profit organisation Fundação Estudar, drawing on his years of living and playing football in China to call on foreign players and influential public figures on social media to show the Chinese people the respect they deserve.

During a video interview at the event, Oscar admitted that it saddened him to see people still holding prejudices against Chinese people.

“I lived in China for a long time, and I understand the importance of respecting a country. China is one of the fastest-growing countries in the world, and I place great importance on respecting the Chinese people. I just hope that more and more foreign players, as well as people with influence on social media, will show respect for the Chinese people.”
